For all levels of rider on your horse or ours

Competitions and Clinics

Bring your horse or use ours! We have lots of options to allow people to enjoy our fab facilities and trainers. Flat and Jump options are regularly available at Cheston. Our Dressage is held monthly on a Tuesday afternoon to evening all year round and we have an informal fun low key Show Jump competition from October to April. We have a wide variety of trainers and prices available. You can find more information below and on our Facebook page. Join our email list to get regular updates on everything we do at Cheston.

We encourage all levels of rider to take part in our clinics and competitions and aim to maintain a friendly welcoming atmosphere to inspire you to train and compete!

Our current programme: Join group or private tuition on your own horse with Sophie Osborne BHSII, BHSSM, or Jenny Sullivan BHSAI. Any of our younger more junior instructors are happy to help if you do not want to join a clinic lesson but prefer smaller more regular tuition. Our trainers can assist you with your basics right through to the requirements demanded at more advanced competition level. Sophie has competed at BD Advanced Medium and BE Novice Eventing as well as regularly producing young horses through lower levels and County Shows.

External trainers come to train Sophie for the BHSI Stage 5 at Cheston, recently we have had Carol Broad FBHS and Robert Pickles FBHS so why not access top level training on your doorstep.

Some of our regular more advanced evening group lessons are an affordable way to keep attending regular training and stay busy especially over long winter nights when our Indoor Arena can keep you entertained!.

External Trainers at Cheston

Over the years, we have invited many external trainers from Grand Prix Dressage riders to BHS Fellows. All come and offer sessions for riders to bring their own horse to to simply improve and enjoy at whatever level suits them. Amateur happy hackers to serious amateurs and professionals are welcome.

Regular training is available with CFEC coaches and dates for our external trainers can best be found by getting in touch or by being on the email list.

Dressage or Jump Clinics & Lessons on your own horse

Alongside Sophie, there is Lizzie Dearn BHSAI and Jenny Sullivan BHSAI, both fabulous qualified freelance instructors who regularly teach for us in the Centre. You can have private or bring riders from your yard or Club to create your own clinic. Both are excellent and varied in their skill set.

Aart Noordjik BHSI

Aart Noordjik BHSI formerly lead at the Academy of Equine Studies at Kingston Maurward College, Dorchester, Aart is also a Chief Examiner of the British Horse Society. Aart specialises in the overall performance of horse and rider. Having spent many years training with horses and riders of all levels in a variety of disciplines, his empathy is very apparent. He trains horses on a daily basis and trains private client riders as well as teaching at dressage, show jumping and cross-country clinics.

Aart is a super trainer who first taught Sophie in 1987. Unfortunately, we have no current dates for Aart but we hope to see him back at Cheston soon.

We encourage all levels of rider to compete

Competitions: Dressage, Show Jumping & Horse Shows
Dressage

The last Tuesday of each month is our Dressage Competition. An unaffiliated dressage afternoon and evening where all levels are welcome.

The ethic behind the competitions is one of encouraging all to take part and have fun providing tests and competition for all abilities, from intro to elementary. We don’t get hung up on turn out – but if you do want to make the effort you could be rewarded with a best turned out rosette.
